this construct (2GdINT construct in the paper) contains the entire Ci-fog cis regulatory region from -314bp and lacking of the first intron. The two endogenous Ci-fog GATA sites (nucleotides -303 to -286) were replaced by GATA sites from the otx neural a-element (nucleotides -1434 to -1418 of potx). This construct maintains animal expression. The nucleotide +1 taken in reference corresponds to the ATG.
